Building a bucket fermenter

Under construction

This page is in preparation. It will cover the full assembly process for a Witre PPPP — Polypropylene A semi-crystalline polyolefin plastic widely used in fermenter buckets, lids, taps, and airlocks. Excellent chemical resistance across all homebrewing chemical environments. EU Regulation 10/2011 compliant. bucket fermenter with a KegLand HDPEHDPE — High-Density Polyethylene A polyolefin plastic used in fermenter taps and spray bottles. Slightly better chemical barrier properties than PP. EU Regulation 10/2011 compliant. tap, EPDMEPDM — Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer A saturated-backbone elastomer rubber used in fermenter grommets and tap washers. Better chemical resistance than NR or SBR. Rated B for DDBSA in realistic homebrewing use with post-batch cleaning. grommet, and 3-piece airlockAirlock A one-way valve fitted to the fermenter lid that allows CO₂ produced during fermentation to escape while preventing air and contamination from entering. Filled with sanitiser solution or cooled boiled water. The rate of bubbling gives a rough indication of fermentation activity, but the absence of bubbling does not confirm fermentation is complete — gravity measurement is the reliable indicator. 3-piece and S-type designs are both common and functionally equivalent for homebrew use. — the best-documented configuration available in the Swedish market.

A homebrewing bucket fermenter is not a single manufactured product — it is an assembly of components from different suppliers. Buying them correctly and assembling them in the right order saves time, avoids material compatibility problems, and gives you a fermenter that is straightforward to clean and inspect.

This guide covers the Witre/Plast-Box PPPP — Polypropylene A semi-crystalline polyolefin plastic widely used in fermenter buckets, lids, taps, and airlocks. Excellent chemical resistance across all homebrewing chemical environments. EU Regulation 10/2011 compliant. bucket configuration with a KegLand HDPEHDPE — High-Density Polyethylene A polyolefin plastic used in fermenter taps and spray bottles. Slightly better chemical barrier properties than PP. EU Regulation 10/2011 compliant. tap. This is the recommended configuration for BrewClub members in Sweden. See the Bucket fermenter guide for the full material analysis and alternative configurations.
